National Mourning for Late Mr Lee

23rd March to 29 March 2015 is a hard week for Singapore.

We have lost our founding father of Singapore on 23rd March.

Last week, my facebook feeds are flooded with his news and the things that he has done for Singapore.

Last week, we are allowed to pay him a respect at the Parliament House. The queue is incredibly long and I'm so touched to see everyone is so united and queue patiently to pay a respect to him.

I have never feel so much love for Singapore. People queue up for hours to pay him a respect, no grumbles at all. This is something that I have never expect that Singaporeans are so nice!

I was telling my ah lao that we have taken things for granted. We never think why trees are planted everywhere in SG, why all Singaporeans' sons have to serve NS, why we have to learn 2 languages and bla bla bla.

Is only after the leaving of Mr Lee, after watching the videos and after reading all the write-ups about him, we realise all these things have been planned for a reason.

I'm so lucky & proud that I am a pure Singaporean.

What I mean pure? I get my citizenship by birth and both my parents are Singaporean. All my grandparents are Singaporean too except my grandpa who came to Singapore from China after 2nd World War II. So I am very thankful that Mr Lee, my grandparents, my parents who have built this country to what it is of now.

Nevertheless, I am still a pure Singaporean and not someone who convert to Singaporean citizenship.

So last Saturday, my family and I have paid our last respect to Mr Lee at Parliament House.

We are lucky that we are in the priority queue. We queue patiently for 3.5 hours, taking turns to carry Mikayla because she doesn't want to sit on her pram without moving. It's only when she falls asleep then we are able to put her in the pram. We also keep feeding her with biscuits and water to keep her hydrated. I was telling my Mr Lee that Belle and Mikayla will be the next generation to see SG100.

This afternoon, we stayed at home and watched Mr Lee's state funeral on TV. I have never stick to Channelnewsasia for such a long time. It's so touching to see a lot of people standing in the rain to see him off and waving our SG flag. I have never see Singaporeans so patriotic before too.

When the siren triggers at around 440pm, we have 1 min of silence for him. After that we said our SG pledge and sing National Anthem. Frankly speaking, it's my first time that I cried when saying our pledge and singing our National Anthem.

We have learnt that we cannot take things for granted and we have to live well and treasure our family time.

RIP Mr Lee.
